Individual Retirement Accounts
Traditional IRAs
- Must be under the age of 70 ½
- Annual Limit of $5,000 under the age of 50 and $6,000 over the age of 50 or 100% of earned income, whichever is less.
- Contributions may be tax deductible, if specific qualifications are met.
Roth IRAs
- No age limit for contributions as long as individual has earned income. Contributions are never tax deductible. Interest and Investment earnings accumulate tax-free. Distribution of rollovers and earnings can be tax-free and penalty free after ROTH is established, if specific qualifications are met.
- Distributions of annual contributions are ALWAYS tax-free and penalty free.
Coverdell Education Savings Accounts (formerly known as Education IRAs)
- Non-deductible contributions are allowed up to $2,000 for each designated beneficiary
- Distributions are income tax free if used to pay for qualified higher educations
